While everyone else might be talking about Mercedes AMG for another reason (maybe about how this weekend will be the final showdown between the team's drivers for the F1 Driver's World Championship), this weekend might also mark the end of the career for the beloved SLS AMG safety car. That's right, with the SLS out of production and the new AMG GT in production, it is entirely possible that next F1 season we will see a new official safety car. The SLS has been serving as the official SC since 2010. Goodbye you gullwinged beauty. I only hope your replacement will make a sound just as heavenly as your own.

Wow. Great observation. The first time I saw one of these in person at the USGP it blew my face of with that noise. They seriously haul ass too. Although, if I'm being honest, that medical wagon is the noise that I love the most. Diesel wagon FTW.

Yeah, no kidding. I was at turn 19 at COTA, and when the safety car and medical car went by together, the noise was absolutely godly. I got a video of it, and still listen to it here and there. It's insanely cool.

One of my favorite parts of a race is when the SC is deployed and you get in-car video (and audio) of Bernd Maylander whipping around the track in that beauty. Since this is clearly PR for Mercedes, I'm sure whatever they replace it with will be awesome.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be. My money is on an AMG GT, it'd be a great way to promote the car by giving it some TV time.
